Mission Work at
Lake City Presbyterian Church

Our congregation supports numerous mission causes locally and internationally. Some are part of our annnual budget and three are contributed to by special offerings. In addition, many groups within the church fund various mission projects and assist with charitable work, including Presbyterian Women, Deacons, youth and fellowship groups.

BUDGETED MISSION CAUSES
AIDS, Malaria, and TB Assistance in Africa
Our gifts provide food, housing, education, and medical expenses for orphans & vulnerable children. They also fund programs in hospitals and in community and congregational-based programs to support the war against these deadly diseases.

• Kake, Alaska Begun as a prayer partnership for this remote Southeast Alaskan village, this project now includes mission trips to provide Vacation Bible School and to do construction work for the church. Christmas gifts and school supplies and clothing are sent each year for the children in the village.

Heifer International This non-profit organization is dedicated to ending world hunger by providing livestock, trees, training, and other resources to help poor families around the globe become self-reliant. Heifer requires its recipients to "Pass on the Gift" by sharing offspring of their livestock with others in need. www.heifer.org

SPECIAL OFFERINGS

Christmas Joy Offering Received annually on the Sunday before Christmas, this offering supports two projects. Half goes to the 8 racial-ethnic schools and colleges sponsored by the Presbyterian Church and the other half goes to the Board of Pensions. The latter 50% supplements the income of retired church workers as needed and provides emergency assistance for all church workers.

One Great Hour of Sharing Received annually on Palm Sunday, this offering is split three ways to the Self-Development of People Program, Refugee and Disaster Assistance, and the Hunger Program. The purpose has remained the same through it’s more than 50 years of existence: to collect special gifts to assist those in need. Today projects supported by One Great Hour of Sharing are under way in more than 100 countries, including the USA. In recent years, US Christians have given more that $20 million annually.

Pentecost Offering Received on Pentecost Sunday, this offering allows us to provide hope for children at risk, opportunities for youth and young adults to grow in their faith, and short-term mission service options for young adults. Congregations keep 40% of the offering received for local programs. In 2005 and 2006 LCPC donated this share to Youth Street Ministries organized by University Presbyterian Church.
